This study aims at analyzing the role of the European Union in the Israeli- Palestinian peace process through tracing the development of the stand and role of the European Union in that process highlighting its significance and the influencing factors in that role. In addition, the researcher seeks to show the most important determinants in the development of that role. The researcher follows the analytical methodology in order to analyze the European role in the Israeli- Palestinian peace process. This study is divided into three sections. To begin with, the first section is the analysis of the European role in the Israeli- Palestinian peace process and the stand of the European Union in the Israeli- Palestinian peace process and its role in the process. The second section discusses the factors leading to the limited political role for the European Union in the Israeli- Palestinian peace process clarifying the importance of this role politically and economically. Finally, the researcher focuses on analyzing the determinants of the European Union’s stand and its role in the process. The theme of this study is inspired by the hypothesis that the political role of the European Union in the settlement doesn’t cope with its importance and economic efficiency considering it as the biggest donor for the process. This is due to a number of factors that restrict its political role, namely the Israeli, American and European factor on the one hand and the crises the European Union has suffered from recently on the other hand.
The researcher concludes a number of results including the clarity and development of the European stand from the peaceful settlement by proposing its vision based on the two-state solution. Still, its political role is ineffective in the settlement and doesn’t go along with its importance and economic efficiency considering it as the main donor for the peace process. Also, the results have showed the limited role’s factors including the Israeli- American rejection to any effective and influential role for the independent European Union in the course of the peaceful settlement. In addition to the crises and problems, from which the European Union has suffered including the refugee crisis, the Brexit crisis has also weakened the attention of the European Union to the peace process in the Middle East.
