A delegation from the Arab American University participated in a number of activities, seminars and workshops at the University of "Newbrandon Berg" in Germany, as part of the cultural exchange program between the two universities.
The Arab American University delegation was headed by Professor Dr Ayman Yousef, professor of Political Science at the Master's program for Conflict Resolution and Development, and Dr. Mufid Qassoum, and the representatives of students studying in this program Rula Shahwan, Ruba Al-Ghoul, Sari Abdullah and Nibal Al-‘Arda.
The delegation participated in many activities, seminars, meetings and workshops. A full day has also been allocated to the Arab American University to hold a series of lectures, seminars and workshops during which both Dr Qassoum and Prof. Dr Yusuf had reviewed the importance and role of cultural communication as a domain of interdisciplinary cognition that contribute to creation of human relations that are characterized in the respect for pluralism, cultural diversity and social transformation in addition to defining the theories that address the emergence of this field of knowledge, tools and skills necessary to facilitate communication and cooperation between peoples.
Also the students participating in the delegation explained the importance and role of media and information technology in cultural communication, as well as the importance of globalization, and international conventions and legislations, being the key tools for change and for spreading the culture of tolerance, and human values. Also they displayed a Palestinian documentary film, entitled "Coffee to All Nations," for the Palestinian filmmaker Wafa Istanbuli to give the German students an idea about some of the Palestinian people sufferings.
The most significant activity done by the delegation was the visit to the German Federal Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag), and the Parliament of the German County of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern where they met with its president Mrs. Zelpfe Bertschneider who in turn welcomed the delegation over lunch that was prepared specially to celebrate the delegation representatives of a number of Palestinian universities that participated along with the Arab American University in this visit. Mrs. Bertschneider stressed in her speech the importance of cooperation and exchange between German and Palestinian academic institutions and she expressed her willingness to visit Palestine at the earliest, after a formal invitation was addressed to her by the Arab American University delegation.
The delegation also participated at the welcoming ceremony for the new students at Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences. Where the university president and vice president of the Universities Union of German Prof. Dr. Micha Teuscher stressed in his speech on the importance of cultural communication, and he saluted the participating Palestinian delegation amidst the applause of the audience. Prof. Dr. Teuscher also expressed his conviction of the importance of continuing cooperation, and on reaching to an agreement on the creation of new mechanisms in a number of different areas.
