AAUP Ramallah headquarter hosted Cyprus’s Consul Savas Vladimiro in a lecture he gave for comparative studies in negotiating and peace-building process course students’ within master's program in conflict resolution and development.
Dr. Dalal Erekat, course tutor, started the lecture welcoming the Cypriot Consul saying, “This lecture is part of the course outline that focuses on studying negotiations and peace processes cases through comparing Irish, Cypriot and Palestinian experiences”
The consul presented Cyprus’ Official opinion of peace process between Turkish Cypriot sides on one hand and Greek Cypriot sides on the other as basic parties in negotiations and the role of both Turkey and United Nations. He gave detailed explanation of interests’ role in determining the countries opinions in the negotiating process.
Also, the role of gas and natural resources in making conflicts worse were discussed. Then discussed strategic alliances role in conflicts resolving attempts to serve different countries with regional and geopolitical interests.
During the lecture a group of various questions and opinions were discussed to learn from the Cypriot experience. Consul Vladimiro gave the university library a collection of valuable books. The university will prepare a library section to serve interested researchers in Cypriot Conflict.
