Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at Arab American University-Jenin, organized a scientific symposium about the mechanism of combating bacteria’s resistant to antibiotics. That was as a part in the International Week, which was launched by the World Health Organization in 2015.
The symposium aimed to raise the awareness of antibiotic resistant bacteria, and the effectiveness of these antibiotics.
The participants in the symposium were: the Dean of the Medical Sciences and Supporting Nursing Faculty; Prof. Muhammad Asia, the Representative of the Palestinian Ministry of Health Director; in Tubas; Dr. Jamil Daraghma, the Dean Assistant of the Medical Sciences and Support Faculty; Dr. Adib Sadaqa, the ex-director of Al-Maqasid Hospital and the specialist in pediatrics; Dr. Amin Thalji, the Chairman of the Medical Science Laboratory Department; Dr. Khalid Kabaha, the Representatives of the Public Administration Primary Care at the Ministry of Health, and a number of doctors who are working in governmental hospitals and medical centers, nurses, and students of the Medical Sciences and Supporting Nursing Faculty.
Dr. Asia greeted and welcomed the attendees, and pointed out that Arab American University-Jenin pays a great attention to such a week, which coincides with the International Awareness Week. Dr. Asia also explained that they had invited all health institutions and workers in primary health care, to discuss this issue. Therefore, the results will be reflected first on the efficacy of the treatment, which will contribute in reducing the treatment’s costs to the patient, as well as decreasing the antibiotics risks resulted from dot not consult doctors. Besides, he gave an explanation about the history of bacteria and resistance to antibiotics, touching the procedures to be followed in order to reduce the bacteria’s resistance to antibiotics.
In turn, the Representative of the Ministry of Health; Dr. Jamil Daraghma, thanked Arab American University- Jenin, for organizing this symposium parallel with the International Awareness Week for combating bacteria’s resistant to antibiotics. He also addressed the errors, that are committed by some pharmacies and patients who buy their medicine without consulting the doctor. Though, he stressed that this became a phenomenon that is negatively reflected on the patient's health, that costs the Ministry of Health huge amounts of money to treat the patient's bacteria resistance to antibiotics. He also explained that the Ministry of Health always seeks for spreading the awareness before selling any medicine. Moreover, Dr. Daraghma addressed the pharmacies not to sell any medicine without being prescribed by a specialist doctor, and he touched some of the preventive instructions and tips for the prevention of diseases, especially bacteria’s resistance to antibiotics
On the other hand, Dr. Amin Thalji, the ex-director of Al-maqasid Hospital and the pediatrics specialist, presented a research, which was previously prepared about the bacteria’s resistance to antibiotics resulted from wrong uses. Whereas,Dr. Iman Qar'an, the instructor of the Dentistry Faculty at the University, presented a paper discussing the society's role in reducing the use of antibiotics which are resisted by bacteria. She also addressed the misconceptions about using antibiotics, and its effects.
Besides, Wala’ Hashim, the instructor at Allied Health Sciences at the university, also presented a paper about the role of health care providers, the society and the decision-makers in combating the bacteria’s resistance to antibiotics phenomenon.
