AAU Hosts a Lecture A bout Scholarships Provided by the U.S Government

It hosted the US consulate and  the AMIDEAST

The Arab American University _Jenin hosted the U.S consulate and the AMIDEAST, in a lecture so as to present the academic scholarships for the Palestinian students, who are willing to study in the United States universities, in the new academic year.

The Vice-President of the Arab American University for Planning and Development; Dr. Osama Salama, the AMIDEAST representative; Sana al-Tamimi, and the representatives of the U.S Consulate; Gina Faraj and Maureen Merom, and members of the academic and administrative bodies of the university, as well as the university students, participated and attended this lecture.

Dr. Salama started the lecture by welcoming the attendees, and pointed out that the United State Department has chosen the Arab American university from the Palestinian universities to organize this lecture as a result of its importance. He praised the role of the U.S consulate and the AMIDEAST in supporting the education, and encourage Palestinian students to purse their studies at US universities by such scholarships. Dr. Salama invited students to take advantage of this lecture and to identify the procedures and steps that are necessary to get such scholarships.

In turn, the representative of  AMIDEAST; Sana al-Tamimi presented a thorough report about the organization, and she pointed out that the organization is supported by the United States Department, under the supervision of the consulate in Jerusalem. She also stated that  their offices are 400, distributed to 170 countries in the world. Tamimi clarified that AMIDEAST offers free services and consulting to students, and it gives information about studying in 4000 universities,1700 of them  University offer graduate studies.

She also presented the procedures for studying in the United States, including researching and the scientific disciplines options, the mechanism of financing the study, submitting the applications, applying for visa, and the travel arrangements.

Gina Faraj said that every year in November the consulate celebrates the international learning week. Through which students in the world are encouraged to study at U.S universities. Besides, the consulate supports the educational sectors in the other countries. She also pointed that the U.S government supported the Palestinian education sector in 2016 with $ 82 million, stressing on the importance of strengthening relations between the Palestinian and American universities.

In turn, Maureen Marroum, discussed the academic programs that are offered by the U.S consulate in the universities of the United States. The duration of such programs is from two weeks to two years, based on the program that is offered. She also pointed out that these programs are supported by the States Department, and she explained the mechanism for choosing candidates after conducting exams and submitting the official papers and documents. Maureen then stated that there are strong competition among applicants to study in American universities.

At the end of the lecture, a discussion was conducted to answer questions from the audience.
