The Researcher Aseel Kmal from Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at Arab American University, received the Scotland award for City Planning using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). She presented her master's thesis at the University of Dundee, one of the best universities in the world. The title of her thesis was "Using Geographic Information Systems Techniques in Assessing the Possibility and Accessibility of Entering Green Places in Dundee".
Kmal concluded with a master's degree in excellence. Her research focused on the mechanism of employing geographic information systems in evaluating the accessibility and possibility of entering public gardens places and green spaces in Dundee city for the sake of self-recreation, reducing stress and maintaining the mental and physical health of the residents of the region.
The results showed that two-thirds of the city's population has access to public parks within an area of 2 to 20 hectares within a distance of 300 meters, while half of the city's residents have access to green areas from 20 to 100 hectares within 2000 meters , And she recommended the need to improve access to green places through the clarification of the current obstacles, and propose solutions to address them, explaining that the possibility of applying the study to any city in the world if the availability of spatial data needed.
Kmal explained that the award is an annually award given by the University of Dundee to any student that offers the best research in the field of geographic information systems at the level of Scotland British, and pointed out that the award means a lot which reflects the level of the academic excellence for graduates from Arab American University, indicating that she received a bachelor's and master's degree in computer science from Arab American University, confirming that this reward made her put more efforts to prove that it is possible to achieve your ambitions and dreams.
Kmal thanked the Arab American administration for its continuous support for its students and university staff to raise their academic level, calling on students to put more effort and focus on scientific research.
