AAUP made a unique achievement in Palestine, represents heart and breathing cardiac Center of Nursing College with a license from the American Heart Association, this achievement was crowned in the training session held by the University for all medical and nursing staff in Istishari Arab Hospital at its headquarters in Ramallah.
Nursing College opened in Arab American University headquarters in Ramallah. As the only authorized center by the American Heart Association AHA in northern Palestine, a specialized training course in cardiac, breathing resuscitation held for crews working in the Arab Consultative hospital.
First stages of training the hospital staff from intensive care sections, cardiac intensive care, internal, surgery, heart, newborn premature infants, emergency...etc. included training on cardiac resuscitation and Basic Life Support "BLS".
The session launched by the Academic Adviser of Directors Board & founding president of Arab American University Dr. Waleed Deeb, Board of Directors Adviser & General Supervisor of the Istishari Arab Hospital Dr. Fathi Abu Maghli, in presence of the Dean of Supporting Medical Sciences and Nursing Faculties Dr. Muhammad Asia, Medical Director at the hospital Dr. Said Srahna, Nursing Director at the Advisory hospital Nada Alian in addition to trainers, supervisors and crews of the Istishari Arab Hospital.
Dr. Abu Maghli said: "Arab American University is a model for applying global advanced teaching methods especially in medical fields, thus the strategic partnership we have serves the two institutions and the local community."
He thanked the University for offering these courses in cardiac & breathing resuscitation for Istishari Arab Hospital crews, adding that the hospital is always trying to contact successful national institutions which considered an example of excellence like AAU.
As for Dr. Deeb, he complimented on the Istishari Arab Hospital & Arab American University partnership, emphasizing that this session was the culmination of the partnership, we always endeavor to strengthen and developed in order to serve our students and the local community.
Professor Fred Abu Leil, Nursing College lecturer at the Arab American University, presented detailed explanation of the basic skills in a rapid response operation in cardiac arrest cases and how to deal with them at all times, in addition to train participants theoretically through video and practicality apply it on each case separately using sophisticated and modern mimic reality devices “Patient Simulator”.
At the end of the session, participants assessed practically and theoretically in order to be given a first responder certification for cardiac resuscitation approved by the American Heart Association.
Dean of Supporting Medical Sciences and Nursing Faculties Prof Asia said “such internationally approved courses enhance the participants’ basic skills in dealing with cardiac arrest cases and how to respond to them. These are part of Nursing College philosophy at the Arab American University for qualifying medical working staffs in hospitals and medical centers in Palestine to provide better services to citizens.”
He focused on the need of local community institutions involvement in these courses to raise awareness and empower the culture of dealing with these cases to decrease death rates from heart and lung arrest due to lack of knowledge of mechanisms and ways to deal with them.
Participants from Istishari Arab Hospital pointed that the course was distinguished by its theoretical side, watching videos and practical side, apply training on all cases, giving them new skills in their respective fields to deal with heart and lung arrest cases and mechanisms to deal with them properly to save lives. Also they thanked the university for the course and their direct contribution to give them first responder certification for cardiac resuscitation approved by the American heart Association "AHA".
The course will continue over two months to address the areas of cardiac resuscitation, Basic life support "BLS", advanced cardiac life support for adults "ACLS" and Pediatric Advanced Life Support "PALS" for all medical and nursing staff working in the Arab Consultative hospital.
