The President of the Arab American University Dr. Ali Zidan Abu Zuhri welcomed a delegation of Arab deputies from the 1948 Palestinian lands, to discuss ways to reduce traffic accidents in the university surrounding which recently increased the death toll of students and citizens.
The delegation included Arab deputies from the 1948 Palestinian lands; Ayman Odeh, Mohamed Baraka, Massoud Ghanaim, Wael Yones, and Abdelhakim Haj Yahya, Arrabat Al-Batouf municipality mayor Ali Assi was welcomed by the university President, member of the University board of Directors Dr. Raed Dalbah, VP for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mr. Faleh Abu Arra, president of the Student Union Council Ali Kameel, and the council member Tariq Kameel.
University President Prof. Dr. Abu Zahri, send his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families on behalf of the university and in the name of Jenin governor, Maj.Gen. Ibrahim Ramadan, who couldn’t attend for previous engagements, saying “It’s unfortunate to lose youths so early in unfortunate traffic accidents.” He explained, infrastructures aren’t the only and main reason, it’s clear that excessive speed, not obeying traffic laws, and poor awareness are the main reasons for all incidents, according to the Palestinian police reports. Emphasizing, the university is interested in developing surrounding infrastructure by addressing responsible authorities to ensure the students and community safety and security.
The Arab deputies thanked the Arab American University for its pioneering role in embracing historical Palestine's students and promote the Palestinian people unity. They stressed on everybody’s pride of the university and the need for joint efforts to ensure the safety of university students as they move from their homes to it.
The two parties discussed ways to reduce traffic accidents and reasons for them. Stressing, we need to address authorities to speed up streets the restoration and equipping to ensure public safety for all.
The University President and the visiting delegation went to the incident scene, where a young woman from Arrabeh Al-Batuf was killed and others injured, they placed the wreath on behalf of the university, which mourned all the victims of traffic accidents.
