The Researcher Aseel Kmal from Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at Arab American University, received the Scotland award for City Planning using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). She presented her master's thesis at the University of Dundee, one of the best universities in the world. The title of her thesis was "Using Geographic Information Systems Techniques in Assessing the Possibility and Accessibility of Entering Green Places in Dundee".
Kmal concluded with a master's degree in excellence. Her research focused on the mechanism of employing geographic information systems in evaluating the accessibility and possibility of entering public gardens places and green spaces in Dundee city for the sake of self-recreation, reducing stress and maintaining the mental and physical health of the residents of the region.
The Faculty of Engineering and IT at the Arab American University organizes a geographical information systems day, where some organizations related to the specialization participated, to enhance the GIS department students’ experience.
The opening session attended by Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology Dr. Mujahid Aliyat, Head of Geographic Information Systems Department Dr. Jacqueline Abu Daoud, representatives of Palestinian universities in the West Bank, representatives of some ministries and related institutions and municipalities in the West Bank and the 1948 lands, the Arab American University academic and administrative staff and students of the University GIS Department.
The Department of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the Arab American University Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology held a workshop on land and water settlement in Palestine in cooperation with the Land and Water Settlement Authority and the Ministry of Local Government.
The University President Prof. Dr. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri welcomes the President of Land and Water Settlement Authority Minister Judge Mousa Shakarneh, who participated in the workshop. He gave him detailed explanation of the university, its faculties and academic programs in bachelor and master degrees, stressing on the partnership importance between the university GIS department and the Land and Water Settlement Authority.
