Arab American University Hosts Jenin Civil Peace Conference

The Arab American University hosted Jenin’s Conference for Civil Peace organized by the Civil Peace Foundation to promote community culture on various topics such as dialogue, social security, tolerance, citizenship, partnership, justice, equality and respecting others, with participation of a representatives group of official and public institutions.

The conference was a continuation of the civil peace document in Jenin governorate, issued in 2016 and formed a consensus by official authorities represented in Jenin. The political forces, Supreme Council of tribes, Palestinian Women General Union, local bodies, Arab American University and our future, intellectuals and youth program to promote and consolidate civil peace, social security and national unity.

The conference was moderated by Dr. Ayman Yousef, Political Science lecturer, while Vice President for Training Dr. Nizam Diab started the welcoming speech conveying greetings of University President Prof. Dr. Ali Zidan Abu Zuhri. AAUJ has always worked to engage with civil society organizations to organize and host conferences and awareness-raising workshops. Explaining, the University with its students, faculty members and administrative staff who came from various cities, villages and historic Palestine camps, are a form of co-existence, constructive interaction and wonderful communication that reflects Palestinian society culture, awareness, refusing violence and choose the principle of constant dialogue, exchange ideas and resolve differences.

In his speech, Assistant Governor of Jenin Mr. Mansour Al-Saadi representing the Jenin Governorate Governor, Mr. Ibrahim Ramadan, stressed on the Governorate role in consolidating and strengthening civil peace among all sectors of society. He said “Dialogue and Tolerance are genuine part of Palestine’s families and children”.

Mr. Jamal Al-Shatti, in the conference Preparatory Committee speech, stressed on the importance of preserving prevailing civil peace in the Palestinian society and strengthening it, raise our generations on the essentiality of dialogue, tolerance, respecting others, renounce violence and hold to good values ​​because society develop by its people’s moral.

In the conference coordinator speech, Mr. Ramzi Fayyad stressed on the importance of assessing the Palestinian situation and identifies any problem that occurs without hiding violence aspects in our society, but to study and develop appropriate solutions to live in a society of safety, security and civil peace.

The first session dealt with topics such as “Jenin Experiment” by Mr. Ramzi Fayyad, “Clans Role in Enhancing Civil Peace” by Mr. Fakhri Turkman, “Religious Values ​​Civil Peace Pillar” by Mr. Adnan Al-Sabah, “Religious Discourse and Impact on Civil Peace” by Mr. Tareq Qa'dan. The session moderated by Mr. Magdolin Musleh and Mr. Mansour Saadi.

The second session titled “Women and Civil Peace” by Mrs. Iman Nazzal, “Media and Civil Peace” by Media Lecturer Said Abu Moalla and “Civil Peace and Law” by Mr. Mohamed Kamenji. The session moderated by Dr. Nizam Diab and Mr. Hanin Ghariba.

In the third session, “Culture’s Role in Improving Civil Peace” by Mr. Mustafa Shita, “Youth and Civil Peace” by Mr. Montaser Abu Haiga, and “Civil Society and Civil Peace” by Dr. Ayman Yousef. Session moderator was Mr. Firas Jarrar and Mr. Jamal Habash.

Participants recommended, promote a culture of dialogue, acceptance, tolerance, form a civil peace coalition and department for monitoring violations that disturb civil peace in each governorate, calling both universities and schools to target students with extracurricular activities to improve it, universities must accredit the civil peace course, the rule of law, adopting justice and remove the tribal, judicial, familial and bounty cover for everyone who’s a criminal or violates society security and let the law takes its course.
