"Guevara the Reader without Boarders" Present in the Hearts of the Arab American University Students

Arab American University Students said “Leader Che Guevara is an idea and ideas never die. He is in the conscience of young Palestinians, inspiring free peoples and present in every Palestinian house. His interest in books and reading reflects his mature revolutionary thoughts”. The university launched exhibition title “Guevara Reader without Borders”, organized jointly by the Faculty of Arts and Abdel Mohsen Qattan Foundation, it included many photographs and documents highlighting the leader Che Guevara passion for reading at the harshest circumstances of his revolutionary career.

The exhibition included collection of rare photographs of Che Guevara during the revolution reading books to reflect his interest in reading and show his passion for revolutionary work in forests and exceptional places and circumstances. Also it highlights reading and knowledge roles during Guevara's life to deepening his vision on revolution, freedom issues, justice and human dignity, and their impact on refining his revolutionary personality and extraordinary career, which made him a great legend that inspired millions around the world. It presented his early childhood to his last days at the Bolivian forests, the books on his theoretical origins in politics, history, economics, philosophy, sociology and psychology as foundation of his own theory.

It was opened for the first time in Rosario city, Argentina by the Latin American Studies Center during the reading week in 2013. Then it became mobile. Arab American University, Palestine host it to offer its students a preview on Che Guevara’s life. Also, the exhibition has a special dimension, given by Guevara's position as an international revolutionary fighter, inspiring the Palestinian people, who for decades have been fighting for freedom and justice, which Guevara gave his life for.

“Organizing the exhibition at the Arab American University for nine days has important implications. It is an inspirational reference to reading role in liberating minds and historical experience of liberation movements that have based their intellectual foundation on knowledge and openness”, said the exhibition organizers.

 Exhibition organizers hoped that the presented pictures of Che Guevara reading books will be a motivation to re-grant books, reading and knowledge its status and strength among Palestinian youth as an important tool of resistance and freedom from the occupation injustice, at a time where we witness a clear decline in book reading.
